Sometime’s a lady just needs a big ol’ bowl of soup, and for me, I’d rather that soup be full of meaty won-tons.
I had been to the King’s off 52nd Street in the SE before and it looked like your average soup joint, and was tasty, but the Barlow location has a little more character.
We started with the salad rolls, and I really, really, like really enjoyed the addition of a roll of deep-fried won-ton wrapper along with the usual shrimp, cilantro and vermicelli. The crunch of it was delightful. ( I didn’t get a photo because that delightful crunch made me forget)
The soup was served promptly and hot. I went with straight up won-ton instead of wor-won-ton because I didn’t need a soup the size of my head at the time. The won-tons themselves were juicy and packed full of tasty tidbits, even though they tend to look like tiny brains. And the broth was a thing to behold, especially with the addition of chili garlic sauce. Really, they should sell that stuff. And actually, at the till, they do!
A delightful little stop for a quick lunch.
